The Kiwi Burger
Back in the 1960's and even earlier in New Zealand, we all had our own versions of The Kiwi Burger. It was the house special that was unique to each address in your street. Today, budding young chefs form every house still have their own ideas and usually they involve the humble beetroot. So here is my version of The Kiwi Burger - a true backyard classic.....
Ingredients for The Kiwi Burger:
1 x 150 gram measure of angus minced beef
Burger sauce - your favourite ( Watties Burger Sauce)
1 medium tomato chopped
1 handful of salad greens
4 slices of beetroot, fresh and boiled for 25 minutes
1 slightly runny fried egg
1 good slice of cheddar cheese
Sourdough burger buns ( Freya's )
If you use good quality angus beef for your patty, prepare the beetroot yourself and get hold of some nice fresh sourdough hamburger buns then this will be one of the best burgers you have tasted. You will hear so many chefs tell you that fresh local ingredients are the key to all great meals. This is no different.
